Vol. 3 - Chapter 43 - Persuasion of slave liberation

This was the place where sex and violence reigned supreme in Starheim. Gill’s reason for coming here was of course not to purchase women. He had come here to persuade the two people ruling this area.

"Guys, it\'s a demonic place from now on. Get ready! Our actions will determine the fate of these brats and the other slaves in Straheim!"

"............"

All of them nodded in silence. There was not the slightest hint of hesitation on their faces.

They probably knew it very well. If this negotiation was successful, then the slavery itself would virtually disappear from Straheim for good.

In the not-too-distant future, it would be no more than a form of occupational mediation, instead of a crude and distorted trade like human trafficking. Of course, they didn\'t deny that slavery would be the part of their lives for the time being, but still, it would definitely be a first big step.

Gill walked through the gate of a four-story red-painted building in front of him.

"Welcome, Masters. What kind of girls are you looking for?"

A woman in her late twenties with an open chest edged up to them.

"This is what we are. We\'re here to do business."

When he showed her the emblem on his silver pocket watch, her face suddenly changed color, and she scurried off into the back room.

"Aniki........" Tetsu called out to him with a voice full of frustration.

"Don\'t worry."

Although they had arrived, apparently people here weren\'t that welcoming of them. It was going to be a difficult business meeting.

After a while, a woman wearing a dress that exposed her shoulders and waist appeared from the back.

"I\'m Kato, the manager of this red-light district. Please forgive me for using my alias."

"I\'m Gill, the head of the recruitment department at Sagami Co. Nice to meet you."

"Yes, I have heard. Madara-sama has already arrived."

The person called Madara was the biggest ringleader in all the slave trading business around this area. Of course, it was also an alias.

"I see. Then please show us the way."

"Yes. This way, please."

Kato began to walk up the stairs, and Gill and the others followed suit.

◇◆◇◆◇◆

The place they were led to was a room with a fairly wide crimson carpet.

In the center of the room, at a large round table, sat a blonde-haired gentleman wearing black-and-white striped top and bottom and a hood.

He’s Madara, I guess.

Kato sat next to Madara and asked Gill and the others to take a seat.

Gill and the others took their seats and straightened their postures.

From here, in a sense, would be the battle of wits.

"Thank you for the opportunity to discuss business with us."

"No problem. You, Sagami Co., is our regular customer, after all. Isn\'t it right, Kato-San?"

"That\'s right,"

They seemed to be considerably vigilant, given the sharp thorns oozing out from their words.

No wonder. Belonging to the organization called Sagami Co. itself, he understood how terrifying the company was. It possessed the financial, sales, and development power that could move the world’s economy, but of course not only that. It also had its own military power.

And the fact that it had demonstrated its overwhelming power during the famous undead assault incident throughout the Empire had attracted the attention of other organisations around the world.

Gill and the others were the emissary of such prominent organizations.

That was why they had to be wary of Kato and Madara, who were nothing more than the manager of slave trading and prostitution.

"We\'ve come to you today with two proposals."

"Let\'s hear them," Madara held up his right hand, indicating to them to continue.

"The first is that, from now on, we, Sagami Co., will be responsible for the purchase of all slaves."

For the first time, Madara\'s eyes narrowed.

"Are you asking me not to sell my slaves to anyone else?" he immediately got to the core of the matter.

"That\'s right. Our company will purchase all of the claims against them."

"Claim? They are supposed to be slaves, though?"

"In the future, they will not be slaves officially, but rather debtors to Madara and the others who will hold the claims."

"Ah, I see. In other words, you only want to take in those that have been sold for money? And not the criminals. Is that what you mean?"

"That\'s right. Those who have committed crimes and have been bought from the country are slaves or whatever you want to do with them."

Gill and the others had no obligation to care for criminals. The only ones to be freed were those who had to become slaves due to unavoidable circumstances.

"I think I\'ve figured out what you guys are trying to do."

Although Madara\'s opinion was unclear regarding Gill and other’s proposals, it seemed like their aim was conveyed to him.

In that case, the next one they had to persuade was Kato.

"Then, the second one is Kato-san. Would you like to work for our Company?"

"Are Sagami Co.’s groups also planning to put their hands on brothel management?"

"No, we are against the conduct of running brothels. We would like to hire all of you to work in our restaurants such as [Silver Knife], and in our clothing stores.”

"Oh my, are you serious? Do you guys know how much they earn? Most likely you don’t. They earn more than your salary," Madara interjected between them with a mocking tone.

"Only a few of them are paid well, right? And our salaries aren\'t much different from yours."

"What did you say?" for the first time, the smile faded from Madara’s face.

"I\'m the head of the human resources department. Our company uses a merit-based system. I\'ve been paid a good amount of money."

"O-oh, it\'s quite unbelievable."

"Is that so? Then here is the proof," Gill threw a dagger from his waist on the table.

"This is?"

"It is a special reward given by the president himself as a reward for my recent business success."

Madara snorted and took the dagger in his hand to examine it closely, but his eye immediately turned into a glaring one.

"Is this really given to you?"

"Of course. You have my words."

"Dammit!!" Madara threw the dagger on the table and kicked up a nearby chair.

"Madara, that is?" Kato asked Madara with a perplexed look.

"It\'s the material. A rare one on top of that. Just that material alone cost more than 100 millions. Humph, what do you mean by you earn the same as me? You\'re making more than me. I swear."

"T-that......" Kato touched the dagger on the table with trepidation.

Surpassing 100 million. I didn\'t even think it was worth that much.

"So, what do you think, Kato?"

"What about you, Madara?"

"Don\'t ask. Anything is fine for me as long as it\'s profitable. They are the golden eggs that bring me money. That\'s the answer."

It seemed like Madara had given his approval. After all, he was a genuine merchant, so it was expected to make him understand. The problem was—

"I will........have to ask the others."

"You are an idiot, you know? You will probably earn a dozen times more than what you earn from selling your body. I think there is no room for hesitation."

Kato bit her lips from Madara’s scornful remarks. He understood her uneasiness very well. Even Gill was the same in the beginning when he entered Sagami Co.

"Don\'t worry. Our president Gray is a very wonderful person. I\'m sure he will guide you."

Although, given the eccentric nature of the president, he would not prepare an easy path for them for sure.

"But........"

"The reason for your hesitation is probably your dealing with [Laguna], right? If you go against them, all the prostitutes in this red-light district will be in mortal danger," Madara screamed with a disgusted smile on his face.

"You can relax. Our president will protect you from [Laguna]—"

"I wonder about that, though."

The door opened and then several black-clothed men barged into the room. In the centre of the crowd, a white-haired old man with a long beard was standing leaning on his cane.

"Tsk!"

Madara rose up from his seat, clicking his tongue and taking a defensive stance. He was more impatient than ever. No way, that old man—

"Hey, you are the subordinate of that son of b*tch brat, right?"

A purple-haired man appeared from behind the old man. When his reptile-like stagnant eyes turned toward them, a chill ran down on Gill’s spine.

"I know the beauty and the blonde-haired gentleman. They are not Gray\'s men."

"Then it\'s those guys, right!!"

"Hiii!"

A scream leaked out from Kato. It couldn\'t be helped. It wasn’t a metaphor but in actuality, that purple-haired man\'s mouth slit up to the root of his ears. It appeared that this person had truly quit being a human.

"Oh my, if it\'s not Poisonous Liquor, one of the four Cardinals and top executives of [Laguna]. You really have fallen too low to even act like a sneaky thief. Ah, my bad, you were originally a sneaky thief, after all,” Madara chuckled.

"As expected, you have betrayed us, Madara," Poisonous Liquor glared at Madara annoyingly.

"I have never intended to be your companion since the beginning. Rather than that, you seem to know about this meeting. I guess my subordinates betrayed me, right?"

"That\'s right, Madara!! I will take all of your organization!!" a fat middle-aged person appeared from behind, pointed to Madara and declared.

"It\'s impossible for someone like you!" Madara said.

"Tetsu, look after those two. Get them to the others safely!" Gill instructed as he took up a defensive stance, raising the dagger that President Gray had given him.

No matter how you look at it, Gill stood little to no chance against monsters like the purple-haired boy and Poisonous Liquor. But still, he must make it through.

In a few moments, the existence called slavery would be virtually extinguished. There would be no more tears of unhappiness on the cheeks of the children who loved their chief.

"But, Aniki!!!"

"Tetsu!!"

Furiously bellowing at Testu, he pushed Kato to him while wiping away his tears. One of his other subordinates also carried Madara on his back.

"Idiot! Do you think I would let you run away!"

Poisonous Liquor raised his hand overhead and soon, rock spears began to rain incessantly towards them from all directions. It must be chantless earth magic.

"WHIRLWIND SLASH!"

Gill’s chant broke apart the rock spears and without a nary pause, he immediately chanted the next Magic.

"FLAME RANDO!!"

Gill\'s next chant created a wave of flame that swallowed and attacked Poisonous Liquor and the others.

"Ahh!?" a subordinate of Poisonous Liquor screamed in astonishment.

However, the next moment, the wave of flames burst out and blew away.

In front of him, the purple-haired man’s hair spread out to fill the room, covering all of Poisonous Liquor’s subordinates.

"Humph! I don\'t need your help!" Poisonous Liquor snorted in dissatisfaction.

"Send your subordinates quickly, or else they will really escape!"

"I know what I\'m doing! Just chase after them!"

About ten black-clothed men sprinted for the window.

"Like hell I will let you!!!" Gill once again attempted to use [Whirlwind Slash].

However—

"Guhh!"

Astonishingly, the small-built Poisonous Liquor grabbed Gill by the neck and lifted him up.

"You are being too conceited, small fry. Leaving Gray aside, do you think a bastard like you can be my match?"

"Puh......l!" Gill spat on Poisonous Liquor’s face.

"You bastard!!!"

With a number of thick veins overflowing on his forehead, Poisonous Liquor tightened his right hand’s grip around Gill\'s neck and put more strength into it.

The creaking sounds of bones shook Gill’s eardrum and a writhing pain ran all over his body.

His consciousness was getting hazier and hazier. Apparently, the end was near. Even though that should have been the case, Gill was unexpectedly calm. Gill would die. There was no denying the fact. However, he was not going to die for nothing. He would take along this old man on a trip to the underworld.

The dagger that the president had given him, [Bakurai], was a material that controlled lightning and explosions. He had kept a large amount of gunpowder in his wristwatch just for a time like this. [T/N : Bakurai means exploding thunder.]

As long as he stabbed the wristwatch, it would cause a large explosion.

I\'m sorry, President Gray. I\'m sorry for returning the favor in vain.

The president had taught Gill and the others how to use firearms for the sole purpose of survival. He would never allow them to use them like this. However, Gill still had the mission to protect his president. There might be some chance for the president to win against that purple-haired monster and Poisonous Liquor. He would at least slaughter Poisonous Liquor here.

I\'m counting on you, Chief, Leader, and Lady Aria. This is my farewell, President Gray!

He tried to use all of his strength to thrust [Bakurai] into the pocket watch.

"Nice try! But it\'s a shame!!"

A cheerful and bouncy voice rang. And the next moment, a sharp acute pain ran in the back of his head. Gill\'s consciousness dyed pure white.
