Chapter 67 - 67 Collecting Gasoline
Mao Qiqi sighed internally, she really wanted to join them, but if she did, her family would take extra care of her, and that might slow them down, so she reluctantly agreed to stay with her uncle and keep watch over the car.
“Girl, it doesn’t seem like there’s anyone around,” Nie Qing had felt the surroundings a moment ago and did not detect any human presence.
Su Jin nodded but still urged everyone to be careful and cautious as they followed. Just because there were no people didn’t mean that there were no other things. In the Apocalypse, danger was everywhere; even a small flying insect could take a person’s life, so one must be extremely vigilant at all times.
Inside the gas station was a minmart with its door wide open. Lu Hao raised his pistol and walked at the front, ready to shoot at any moment. After he entered and looked around, he found that there was no one inside.
He shook his head to signal the family, and they followed him in.
“That’s great, Su Jin. Can we now take everything here?” Lin Xiuyuan’s eyes gleamed as he looked at the unattended minmart in front of him.
Seeing her family looking at her with eager eyes, Su Jin couldn’t help but shake her head. Did her family have the same hoarding trait as she did?
Understanding the situation, Lu Hao turned off the surveillance camera, to avoid letting others discover the matter of the Space.
However, Su Jin didn’t take everything from the minmart.
She did take all the frozen food in the freezer, knowing that the city’s power supply system would collapse before long, and leaving the frozen food here would just be wasteful. So, she decided to take everything into her Space.
But on the shelves, she left some instant noodle buckets, food, and water. In case Survivors found this place in the future, they could still replenish some food and water. If no one came, leaving this bit wasn’t too wasteful.
Nie Qing saw what Su Jin did and nodded; leaving a way out while not being overly compassionate is indeed a very good way to deal with things.
Mao Zhihang, noticing the cigarette-filled shelves behind the cashier counter, asked Su Jin to take those as well. Although they did not crave cigarettes, he knew that they could be useful as a gesture of goodwill or as bartering chips in the future.
With each passing day, Su Jin’s respect for Mao Zhihang grew; his ability to adapt to life in the Apocalypse was indeed strong.
Once they had taken these items, the family prepared to continue collecting gasoline before leaving. There turned out to be reserve fuel tanks behind the gas station. Just as Su Jin was about to take the two large fuel tanks into the Space, suddenly, they heard two horn sounds.
Is it Lin Cheng?! Did he encounter some danger?
As it turned out, Lin Cheng was vigilant while waiting for them. He saw the family exit the minmart and go to the backyard of the gas station. Then he noticed three stray dogs leap off the roof of the minmart and head towards his family!
The three stray dogs were clearly not normal; besides being covered in blood, despite their small size, they managed to jump from such a high roof. They couldn’t possibly be ordinary dogs!
So Lin Cheng honked the horn right away, hoping to alert his family.
At this moment, Su Jin and the others had already spotted the three stray dogs. Seeing them, Su Jin wasn’t worried anymore. Since Lin Cheng didn’t honk again, it meant that the two earlier honks were just to warn them.
“Xiao Jin, protect the family. I’ll go and meet them,” said Lu Hao.
“Brother-in-law, let’s do it together,” Lin Xiuyuan from behind also stepped forward.
Just as Su Jin was about to say something, the three Zombie Dogs charged over with a roar!
“Lin Xiuyuan, use your Special Ability!”
Su Jin intended to take this opportunity to train Lin Xiuyuan; the three Zombie Dogs were not hard to handle, what mattered was preventing any harm to the family. Therefore, she didn’t take action directly but watched her family in combat so as to avoid accidental injuries from the Zombie Dogs.
Lu Hao swiftly dodged an aggressive lunge from a brown Earth Dog and conjured a ball of Special Ability Fire in his hand, hurling it at the Earth Dog! With a cry, the Earth Dog instantly turned to ashes!
So impressive! thought Lin Xiuyuan as he looked at the blood-covered white Zombie Dog in front of him. Focusing his mind, he used the method he had practiced with Lu Hao before to freeze the Zombie Dog’s limbs to the floor.
Success! Lin Xiuyuan was delighted.
“Lin Xiuyuan, don’t stop, take the opportunity to finish it!” Su Jin reminded from the side.
Lin Xiuyuan nodded and, acting as he had planned, continued to use his Special Ability on the Zombie Dog. The dog that was half-frozen just moments ago was now completely immobilized.
“Break!”
Lin Xiuyuan shouted, and the frozen Zombie Dog instantly shattered, scattering across the floor along with the broken ice.
“Son, you did so well,” said Huang Yunxiang, who was seeing Lin Xiuyuan use his Special Ability for the first time and defeat a Zombie Dog. She couldn’t help but feel overjoyed.
But at that moment, Lin Xiuyuan felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body, leaving him too weak to even stand.
Su Jin helped him to Huang Yunxiang’s side, saying, “This is from overusing a Special Ability; you’ll need to rest for a while before you recover.”
Huang Yunxiang did not understand what it felt like to overuse a Special Ability, but seeing Lin Xiuyuan’s pale face made her feel very distressed.
“Son, you’re still too weak. Look at your brother-in-law, he’s still fine,” Huang Yunxiang said.
Lin Xiuyuan rolled his eyes: “Am I even your real son? What kind of comfort is that?”
